During the bicentennial of Colombia's independance, Colombians celebrated democracy, unity and progress.

Three initiatives that marked the bicentennial included the opening of the centennial urn and sealing of a new urn; the launching of a cultural tourism program to highlight historic roadways; and the creation of bicentennial literary circles across the nation to foster reading and discussion of Colombian history.

Country Snapshot:

• Colombia’s cuisine varies among its many regions. The well-known regional dishes include the ajiaco (potato and chicken soup) and bandeja paisa (red beans, white rice, ground meat, pork rinds, fried eggs, plantain, chorizo and more).

• Colombian coffee has been recognized worldwide for its high quality and distinctive, bold flavor.

• Colombia is the top emerald-producing country in the world. Colombian emeralds can be as large as 200 carats.

We are in our bicentennial year thanks to the liberator SIMON BOLIVAR, FELLOW Colombians cannot forget that; instead we must fight to continue united in this America of great resources, all we need now is for our countries to become united, disregarding the political leanings of each.
