FIFA Sets Conference On World Cup Security For March
FIFA has set the conference date to study security issues related to the South African World Cup for 4 and 5 March at its headquarters in Zurich (Switzerland), where representatives of police bodies from the thirty-two participating countries are expected to attend.
FIFA’s president, Joseph Blatter, who is Swiss, will also take part in the discussions, along with members of the organizing committee, representatives of the South African government, and representatives from Interpol, with the aim of discussing the local government’s plans for security and for protecting teams, referees, and spectators.
“This is important because it’s the first time that an International Federation is organizing a meeting of this kind, but it doesn’t mean that we’re worried,” said FIFA’s general secretary, Frenchman Jerome Valcke, when he announced the meeting at the beginning of the week.
