The 5th Military World Games took advantage of Marathon in Rio de Janeiro for their own competition within the event, which has become a tradition in the city.

And this was exactly the setting responsible for the first medals of the fifth edition of the Games. On Sunday morning, North Korea and France won the first two gold medals from the event. North Korea’s Kim Kum Ok won the women’s marathon, finishing in 2 hours and 35 minutes, while France’s Patrick Ngoie grabbed the gold after running more than 40 kilometers in 2 hours and 18 minutes.

Also on the women’s medal podium was silver medalist Wei Yanan China, and bronze medalist for Johames Helario of Namibia.

For the men, Frenchman Rachid Ghamnoumi won the silver and Paul Kogsei of Kenya took the bronze.
