Along with pride at being named the site of the 2016 Summer Olympics, Rio de Janeiro is proud of hosting international military tournaments. In 2011, the city will host the fifth Military World Games, which take place every four years.

Brazil is one of the 131 member nations of the International Military Sports Council, or CISM. It annually organizes more than 20 military world championships for different sports, as well as continental and regional competitions. CISM’s philosophy is to contribute to world peace by uniting armed forces through sports. Some of those military forces may have previously met on the battlefield.

Brazil’s military authorities are working with local and national authorities and organizations to ensure the highest level of quality of the games in CISM history.
